Thirty-Three

Dane

We all know Evie is freaking out, although she is trying to remain strong. So we take a page out of Ky's book and decide to let her work her way through her emotions on her own, but we leave the bonds open so she can still feel our concern. If she wants to acknowledge the enormity of what happened back there, she’ll talk to us. Of that I am now certain. Whatever realization she came to out there with Ky, it changed her. Gave her a newfound sense of confidence.

Ky whispers directions to her house into our minds, since he is the only one of us who has actually been there. When he visited her that first time, he used his connection to Evie to guide him. But with her in the car with us, that's pretty much impossible.

As I drive, I can't help but wonder who Evie's birth parents are and if I know them. Not many of our kind don't know, or at least know of, each other. Family names especially are usually pretty well known. And if we don't know someone, it’s usually because a fake name is being used for some reason. And if that’s the case, we may never discover who her real parents are or why they abandoned Evie to such monsters. Because that's one thing my bond brothers agree on. Evie's adoptive parents and biological ones had to be monsters. After all, why else would her birth parents leave her with people like that? Especially with so many Elementals out there who would have been willing to raise her as their own.

I know my brothers thought she might have just been dropped off at a hospital and was adopted out through the human channels, but that just doesn’t feel right to me. My gut is telling me she was placed with this particular family for a reason, I just have no clue why. But one thing is for sure, I intend to find out and bring her birth parents to justice for abandoning her in such a horrid place. Even if they didn't know she was the savior of our kind, what they have done is unforgivable.
